It is important to know that we do not use any headgear, which is a harness that fits around the neck. If overbite is a situation that needs to be corrected, we use adjustable devices that fit inside the mouth and are easily tolerated by most teens. These devices do not cause any speech impediment nor will they give any opportunity for the patient to be teased by classmates in school.

The Damon system is another new breakthrough in braces that uses brackets and high-tech memory wire. Memory wire is basically a very soft wire with an excellent memory. Memory means that, after flexing it to a new shape, it will gently and gradually return to its original shape. This innovation allows greater tooth straightening capabilities with fewer office visits for adjustments. Brackets are small square shaped appliances that are attached to the teeth and one way that they have become high tech is that they are now made individually for each tooth. This means that the average patient will have straight teeth by the time the memory wire returns to its original shape. The way that the wire attaches to the brackets is also now more high tech as the brackets have little sliding doors to hold the wire. Previously, the wire had to be tied to the bracket and this caused greater friction and discomfort. The Damon system offers a number of different designs of brackets with some that are even clear so as to be undetectable.
We also offer new technology in retainers. Retainers are used at night, to keep the teeth in their new positions, after the treatment with braces or Invisalign is finished.
